Nathan Brazy and Kevin Brzys attend the EEI Transmission Distribution Metering & Mutual Assistance Conference in Minneapolis, MN. This presentation given with Maria Rodriguez of Duke Energy shows how Duke Energy is making use of the new Line Constants and Impedance Calculation tools in PLS-CADD and how they are being used to deliver more accurate results leveraging PLS-CADD’s knowledge of wire positions in relation to one another and the ground. PLS-CADD analyzes the constant changing of wire positions, phase transpositions, changes in the ground surface, variable earth resistivity and other nuances that other software and techniques can’t capture, and instead use gross simplifications and assumptions. This lets PLS-CADD give much more accurate results without needing to make assumptions, and it can do it in a fraction of the time needed in other software and techniques. This presentation also mentions the lightning protection features recently added to PLS-CADD and a sneak peak at the new fully 3D EMF calculations that will be coming out in the next public release version. You can try these out today with our insider release version. Contact our support team at support@powline.com for more details.
